General Notes: Husband - Samuel Smith


He obtained his education in the subscription schools of his boyhood days. He learned the trade of carpenter which he followed for ten years and then (1844) purchased a farm on which he then resided for many years. His farm contained one hundred and seventy-four acres of good and well-improved land located in the southwestern part of Sewickley township, Westmoreland County. Mr. Smith was first a whig and later a republican. He served Sewickley township for sixteen years as school director and three years as road commissioner. He with his entire family were members of Mars Hill Baptist church.
