General Notes: Husband - Dr. William Rush Hockenberry


He grew up on his father's farm and attended the district schools. He was graduated from West Sunbury Academy in 1892 and for several years taught school in Cherry Township, Butler County, Pennsylvania. In 1897 he received his degree as Doctor of Medicine from Western Reserve University, Cleveland, and immediately engaged in practice at Slippery Rock. He took several courses in post-graduate work and was a progressive and capable man in his profession.
He was a Republican and served as a member of the Pennsylvania State Legislature in 1903-4-5-6. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and belonged to the Masonic Lodge and Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Doctor Hockenberry was identified with the American Medical Association, Pennsylvania State Medical Society, and was president of the Butler County Medical Society at two different times. He served as a member of the local school board for twenty-five years and was a member of the Slippery Rock State Normal Board, which office he held for several years.
