General Notes: Husband - John D. Hitchman

He was educated in the public schools of his native town, in preparatory schools, and attended Princeton University for a time. Having grown up in an atmosphere of banking and finance, and stimulated by his father's enthusiasm and success, Mr. Hitchman adopted the same profession. He entered the First National Bank of Mount Pleasant as teller, became cashier, and in 1905 became president. Besides this executive post, Mr. Hitchman was a director of the Peoples' National Bank of Mount Pleasant and of the Citizens' Savings and Trust Company of the same town. His strenuous business career did not precluded his performance of what he considered his civic duty. For two terms he served as Comptroller of the County, a member of the Republican Party and he was a member of the National Guard, Company E, Tenth Regiment, in rank a captain. He was also captain adjutant of the 110th Infantry with a fine record of overseas duty. He was a popular club man and a communicant of the Presbyterian Church.
