General Notes: Husband - Robert Hitchman

In early life he worked at the trade of carpenter, and several large buildings stood for many years as monuments of his skill in that direction. Later he turned his attention to farming, which proved most successful; he accumulated large tracts of land and at one time was the owner of most of the land on which East Mount Pleasant later stood. In connection with farming, which he conducted up to the time of his death, he was the proprietor of what was known as the National Hotel, Mount Pleasant, conducting the same in a successful manner for about four decades. He was a director in the Glade Pike Company for years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Greensburg, and an active worker in the ranks of the Democratic party.
