General Notes: Husband - John Hoagland

He was only five years old when he came with his parents to Hickory Township, Mercer County, PA. He served in the war of 1812, at its close settling on a farm in East Lackawannock Township, afterwards removing, with his family to Hickory Township, where he followed farming and stock-raising until his death.

He was postmaster at Hermitage for twenty-six consecutive years, or, from Andrew Jackson's administration, to the election of Mr. Lincoln, in 1860. This post-office was established under Jackson's first administration, and named from the General's homestead in Tennessee. It was at first located near Fry's Corners, but was removed by Mr. Hoagland to his farmhouse upon his appointment.
