General Notes: Husband - Philip S. Hoch

He passed his boyhood in assisting on the farm and in attendance at the public schools, and later became a pupil at Whorley's school, in Franklin County, Pennsylvania, where he remained until his eighteenth year. Upon his return he continued to assist his father until his majority. After his marriage he settled on the homestead for six years and then moved to Franklin County, locating on a farm adjoining the Shoemaker farm, where he remained for twenty-five years. In 1894 he purchased the McCullough farm and also the Shoemaker farm, thus becoming the owner of a fine tract of 150 acres. The latter farm was well improved, with a fine brick residence and a substantial bank barn 65x95 feet in dimensions. Mr. Hoch had his farm well stocked with high-grade cattle, and carried on large agricultural operations. In addition to being the owner of this property he was interested largely in the manufacture of hardwood lumber, holding a timber tract on the North Mountain and owning and operating a portable sawmill. He was one of the directors of the Lurgan Mutual Fire Insurance Company.
He and his wife were prominent members of the U. B. Church, in which he was choirmaster and a teacher in the Sunday-school.
