Gertrude Myers had many interests in county
Mrs. Gertrude Hoffman Myers, 75, of Clintonville, wife of LeRoy O. Myers, died in the Franklin Regional Medical Center on Tuesday following an illness of several months. She had been critically ill only the past few days.
She was born Jan. 20, 1909, in St. Marys, W. Va., a daughter of Frank and Lula Hovis Hoffman. Her father, an employee of the Crawford-Gregory organization, had gone to West Virginia from Venango County in the 1900s to open the St. Marys oil field.
They returned to Clintonville and she graduated from Clintonville High School. She was graduated from Beckley College in Harrisburg and from West Virginia University, Morgantown.
She was employed by Pennsylvania State University as a secretary to the dean of education for a number of years. She also worked as a graphic illustrator at Michigan State University at East Lansing, Mich., and while there was also librarian for the U.S. Army Air Force.
She was married to LeRoy O. Myers on June 7, 1941. They returned to Clintonville following retirement in 1976 to make their home. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Clintonville and the Women's Society of Christian Service there.
She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Clintonville, the Clintonville Woman's Club, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Clintonville Volunteer Fire Department, the Daughters of the American Revolution in Grove City, the Kitchen Cabinet Orchestra of Clintonville, the Arts Association of Morgantown, W. Va., and the Fine Arts Association Meadville. She was a life member of the Venango County Historical Society and of the West Virginia University Alumni Association.
Her husband survives, along with one sister, Mrs. O. B. (Virginia) Cannon of Clintonville; one brother, David Hoffman of Union City, and one nephew, Robert Cannon of Clintonville.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Grace United Methodist Church, Clintonville, with the Rev. Edward Clark, pastor, officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Jersey Shore Cemetery, Jersey Shore, Pa. The Rev. Margaret Dunlap, pastor of the Polk United Methodist Church, will conduct the memorial service at the cemetery.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Grace United Methodist Church and the American Cancer Society.
