General Notes: Husband - Delford U. Arird

In the early part of his life he attended school in the township and later in the village (borough) of Sugar Grove, Warren County, Pennsylvania. Subsequently with his brother, Clemons D. Arird, he attended the Jamestown Union School and Collegiate Institute, from which institution both graduated. After leaving the schools at Jamestown, New York, he taught school in Warren County, teaching at Youngsville for a period of five years, then in 1885 was elected prothonotary and clerk of the courts of Warren County and held this position for two terms or a period of six years. In the meantime and subsequently he studied law with Messrs. D. I. Ball and C. C. Thompson and was admitted to practice in 1892; shortly afterwards he was admitted to the supreme and superior courts of Pennsylvania as well as the United States courts. In his profession he was very successful and somewhat aggressive in the trial of causes. He was known as an able trial lawyer and his practice was not local. He was called upon to try cases in the states of New York, Massachusetts and Ohio, as well as in the courts of the United States. He was called upon to act as counsel in some noted criminal cases. In addition to his law practice he was interested in the oil and lumber business. He resided in Warren beginning in 1886. He served as a member of the school board for a period of six years, three of which he served as president of the board.
