General Notes: Husband - Andrew Stranahan

He emigrated from his native country, Ireland, in 1828, and lived three years in New Jersey, and in 1835 he went to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he was married. He remained in that city until 1851, when he purchased 121 acres in East Lackawannock Township, Mercer County, of the Dickson heirs. He and his wife became members of the First United Presbyterian Church of Mercer, and he in his younger days was a member of the I. O. O. F., having been admitted to the Amity Lodge of Philadelphia in 1842, and to a lodge in Mercer in 1851.

He and his wife were both natives of County Down, Ireland, of Scotch-Irish ancestry. They came to America about 1820 and remained in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, until 1851, when they removed to Mercer County, where they made their home. They were engaged in agricultural pursuits, and were honored residents of the county.
