He and his wife resided in McKean County, Pennsylvania, until 1893, when they removed to Sistersville, Virginia, where he was employed by the Standard Oil Co., for which corporation he worked for over twenty years at a salary of $100 per month. He had two children living in 1898. When seventeen years of age he enlisted in the Union army and served through the war.
