He was the founder of this family in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, coming from Massachusetts and making settlement in the Ligonier Valley.
He was a soldier of the Revolutionary War, and served under General Arthur St. Clair, on his unfortunate expedition in Ohio. He resided on his farm in the Ligonier Valley until he was over eighty years of age. He was twice married and had issue by both wives.
