Growing up, he had the advantages of the Glenn school. He followed farming pursuits and stock-raising in Sandy Lake and Mill Creek Townships, Mercer County, PA. He served as director of the poor for Mercer County, to which office he was elected in November, 1907. In politics, he was a Republican. He belonged to the Odd Fellows order, Lodge No. 573. Both he and his wife were members of the Presbyterian Church of Sandy Lake. [HMC 1909, 857]
