Edna Matthews
Mrs. Edna G. Matthews, 88, of Kennerdell RD 2, a lifelong resident of Irwin Township, died in the United Community Hospital, Grove City, at 4 a.m. today; June 23, following an extended illness. She was admitted to the hospital two days ago.
She was born in Irwin Township May 14, 1902, a daughter of Fulton Boyd and Mary Beighlea Hovis. She married Leonard C. Matthews Feb. 28, 1922 and he died in July 1959.
Mrs. Matthews worked as a nurse's aide for many years at Grove Manor and Bashline Hospital in Grove City, and in private duty care in the Grove City area.
She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church. She formerly belonged to the Pleasantview United Methodist Church and Sunday School.
Mrs. Matthews had also been member of the Clintonville Woman's Club and the Rebekah lodge in Grove City. She enjoyed traveling, knitting and crocheting.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. William J. (Julia E.) Uncapher, Kennerdell RD 2; two grandchildren, Mrs. Richard (Darlene M.) Exley, Kennerdell RD 2, and William L. Uncapher, Albuquerque, N.M.; and one great-grandchild, Mark Douglas Uncaper, Albuquerque.
A sister, Elizabeth Gilliland; and six brothers, Lee, Willie, Elton, Charles, Leonard and Francis Hovis, are deceased.
Friends will be received in the Larry E. McKinley Funeral Home, Clintonville from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and until time of services Tuesday.
Complete funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Margaret Dunlap, retired pastor of the Pleasanrview church, officiating. Interment will be in Pleasantview Cemetery.
