General Notes: Husband - Anthony Armstrong

He was born in Turbut township, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, and attended the high school in Watsontown. At the age of fifteen he began clerking for H. P. Allen, of Allenwood, in whose employ he remained until 1872, when he went to Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, where for four years he was employed as a salesman in the general store of J. W. Bridgins. On February 1, 1877, he went to Black Hills, Dakota, and was a member of the Philadelphia Mining Company, operating on Rapid creek. During that time he represented the Camp Crook district in the convention on new Territory, held in Deadwood, Dakota, September 29, 1877, which convened for the purpose of electing a representative to Congress, who could secure the independence of that Territory. He left Dakota October 29, 1877, and, returning to Allenwood, was again employed by Mr. Allen until 1889. He was then for two years treasurer and manager of the Allenwood planing-mill, and on August 1, 1893, he embarked in general merchandising, secured a good patronage, and met with success.
He served as postmaster, from 1888 until 1891, and was re-appointed on August 1, 1893, serving to July 14, 1897.
