He was born in Hopewell Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania, near Buffalo, and attended Buffalo Academy, and after his marriage settled on the farm later owned by his son, John P. White, where he continued to live until his death, with the exception of one year. In politics he was a Republican but he took no very active part in public matters.
