John H. Hughes, 89, Succumbs in Warren
FRANKLIN - John H. Hughes, 89, former Victory Heights resident and at one time an oil field worker in Venango County, died at 5:20 am Saturday in Warren after an extended illness.
He was a retired employe of Sylvania Electric in Warren.
Born in Cranberry Township April 29, 1885, he was a son of Clinton W. and Mary Kennedy Hughes.
He was a member of the Free Methodist Church in Warren.
His wife, the former Minnie Belle McClimans, died in 1966.
He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Jack (Maybelle) Sheffer of New Castle, Mrs. Raymond (Evelyn) Stevens of Oil City RD 1 and Mrs. Ruth Morrison of Franklin; a sister, Mrs. Frances Malliard of Conneaut Lake; two brothers, Archie Hughes of Hollywood, Calif., and Ralph M. Hughes of Victory Heights; 9 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
A son, Paul died in 1972. Five sisters and a brother also are deceased.
The family will receive friends at the Burger - Gardinier Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm today. Funeral services will be held at 11 am Tuesday in the funeral home with Rev. James W. Grant, pastor of the First Free Methodist Church in Oil City, officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens.
