General Notes: Husband - Edward Latta Hugus

He passed his childhood and early youth on his father's farm. He continued to live there until he had completed his twenty-fourth year, at which time he was married, and after that event spent four years on his father's farm, helping the elder man with its operation. In 1888, however, he secured his own farm nearby, which consisted of some one hundred and twenty-five acres, and was situated in Unity township, near Whitney, about thirteen miles southeast of Greensburg. This farm was known as the Ferry farm, and thereon he erected a handsome house in which he made his home. This he constructed during the first year of his ownership and ten years later, in 1898, he put up a handsome barn. For a number of years he operated a dairy, selling the milk of his herd in Latrobe, about five miles distant, but later he gradually turned his attention to more general farming. His farm is one of the best and most fertile in the whole of Unity township, the result of careful cultivation and scientific treatment of the soil. Mr. Hugus was an up-to-date and scientific farmer, acquainted with all the modern methods of improving and rendering fertile his land.
