General Notes: Husband - Marion Hugus


He received his education in the public and select schools of Salem borough, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and Jefferson college which he attended one year. At twenty-one years of age he engaged in the distilling business at Bouquet, which he followed for three years. He then assisted his father until 1876 when he went to the oil fields in Pennsylvania, where he remained until 1882. In that year he engaged with the noted contractor, Daniel Dull, and was employed for two years in drilling artesian wells in New York city. In 1879 he returned to Westmoreland County and embarked in the natural gas business.
He was a member of Westmoreland Lodge, No. 518, A. Y. M. and New Salem Presbyterian church.
