He was educated at the public schools, and in 1879 engaged in the lumber business under the firm name of Cubbage & McCabe, dealers in lumber and planing-mill supplies. He was a resident of Mansfield beginning in 1881. He was a member of the Masonic fraternity and of the Presbyterian Church; he was a democrat.
