He was vice president of the H. J. Heinz Company of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and was a member of the firm from 1892. He was a director of the Real Estate Trust Company, the Armstrong Cork Company, and a member of the Duquesne Club, the Oakmont Club, the Pittsburgh Athletic Association, and the Country Club of Pittsburgh.

She attended the Lincoln School of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and from 1887 to 1891 the Pennsylvania College for Women. She was a member of the Twentieth Century Club, a director of the Soho Settlement House, and one of the founders of the Home for Crippled Children.
