General Notes: Husband - James Ramsey Irwin


He was graduated at the Military Academy at West Point, in 1825. He served in the Seminole War, 1836-38, and was a captain in the 1st Artillery, U. S. A., at the beginning of the war with Mexico. In the Mexican War, he was quartermaster of the army under Major General Scott, and was present at the battles of Cerro Gordo, Churubusco, Molino del Rey, Chapultepec, and the capture of the City of Mexico.
