General Notes: Husband - William Fullerton Irwin

---

He attended the schools of Jacksonville, Pennsylvania, and Greensburg. He graduated at Jefferson College, Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, October 4, 1834, at the age of eighteen years, and from the medical department of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, April 5, 1839. He practiced medicine at Monroeville, Stewartsville and Pittsburgh, in which latter city he engaged in the drug business at the corner of Hand (later Ninth) street and Penn avenue. He later went to McKeesport and engaged in the lumber business with John Blaine, William Ward and William Wilson, under the firm name of Blaine, Irwin & Co. Later he purchased a farm near Irwin. He was appointed deputy United States internal revenue collector for a goodly portion of Westmoreland County during the Civil war, his commission being dated November 10, 1862. After this was terminated he devoted his time to the management of his own property, assessing and collecting taxes and the adjustment and settlement of other estates as executor and administrator. He was also school director for a number of years.
