He was of Irish descent, and was educated in the common schools. He learned the business of farming, and always engaged in it. He was born on the farm on which he died. He was a Republican in politics, but never held any public office, and never sought one, and was not a church-member. His father left him a small legacy, to which he added yearly by good farming.
