Arthur J. Jacobs
Arthur J. Jacobs, 96, of 43 Butler Alley died at 12:35 pm Tuesday in his home.
Born August 27, 1890, in Meadville, he was a son of the late John L. and Edith Elder Jacobs.
After graduating from Meadville public schools, he was a telegraph operator, first for Erie Railroad, then for Bessemer & Lake Erie Railroad.
In 1916, he went to work for United Natural Gas Co., working first in the Sigel field and later in the Brookville office.
He was then transferred to the accounting staff in the Oil City general office. On September 1, 1955, he retired after 39 years of service at UNG.
Mr. Jacobs was a member of Oil City First Free Methodist Church.
On May 4, 1910, he married the former Clara E. Reiser of Pardoe, Mercer County. She died January 7, 1968.
Surviving are three sons, John R. Jacobs of Oil City, Fred C. of Erie and Philip A. Jacobs of Oil City; nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter Clarice Kline Bickel.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm today in the Morrison Funeral Home.
Services will be at 11 am Thursday in the funeral home, with Rev. Larry Houck, pastor of First Free Methodist Church, officiating.
Interment will follow in Zion Cemetery in Mercer County.
