General Notes: Husband - John Reed McDowell


He taught school in early manhood, and later conducted the "Valley House" at Lewistown, Mifflin County, Pennsylvania, for several years, but his remaining years were spent in farming. He was active in political affairs, and held office as deputy sheriff for some time, and in 1841 was elected prothonotary of Mifflin County, which position he filled for two terms.

He was raised on a farm. He taught school for several years. He was appointed deputy sheriff, and in 1841 was elected prothonotary of Mifflin County, filling the office during two terms. Afterwards, for several years, he kept the Valley House, at Lewistown, and then during the rest of his life gave his attention to farming.
