He was educated in Mount Pleasant, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. He was engaged for eleven years as cashier of the Connellsville (Pennsylvania) National Bank, and had the remarkable record of making but one error during that time. He later resided at Edgewood, where he was state auditor and accountant.
