He was educated at Southern Branch University of Idaho, 1934-1937 and University of Idaho 1937-1939, B. S. in fores­try. During the summers of his college career he worked with the United States Forestry Service in the vicinity of Sandpoint, Ida. After graduation, he was with the service near Pocatello, ID, and in Janu­ary, 1941, was transferred to Salt Lake City, where on August 19, 1941 he was inducted in the United States Army Signal Corps, and sent to the school at Fort Monmouth, NJ, from which he graduated January 22, 1942. He was then transferred to McClellan Field, CA, where he served as Radio Technician until September, 1942, when he was sent to Officers Candidate School, Scott Field, IL, from which he graduated December 26, 1942 with the rank of Second Lieutenant. He was assigned to Squadron 570, 390th Bomb Group (heavy). His outfit embarked July 12, 1943 for overseas flight via Bangor, ME, for Framingham, Suffolk County, England, where he served as Communi­cations Officer from July 18, 1943, to June 22, 1945, during which time he made many mission flights over Germany. He was given the rank of First Lieutenant July 22, 1943 and that of Captain in August, 1944.
He returned to the States in June, 1945, and assigned to the Pacific Theater until after V-J day when he was returned to Boise, ID, and placed on inactive status December 18, 1945, with the rank of Captain, A. A. F. Reserve. After discharge from the Army, he was engaged as a salesman for the War Assets Administration.
