General Notes: Husband - William P. Monroe

He attended the common schools until sixteen years of age when he entered the Loyalhanna Paper Mills and learned the business of paper making, which he followed for only a short time. He next turned his attention to teaching and in order to fit himself for that profession he entered New Alexandria academy and took the full course of study. Leaving the academy he taught in Hempfield township, Westmoreland County, for several years, after which he removed to Salem township where he then engaged in farming.
