General Notes: Husband - William Johnston

The Johnson family had gone to Ireland from Scotland because of religious persecution, and suffered during the siege of Londonderry and the battle of the Boyne and their property was confiscated.

He was born in County Antrim, Ireland. He lived some years near Strabane, County Tyrone. He participated in the seige of Londonderry, and was subsequently forced to fly on account of the rebellion of 1792. His first location was on the North river, in New York, removing successively to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and what is now Cherry hill township, Indiana County, arriving at the latter about 1795, and locating on a farm near Greenville.

He came to America with his wife and five children, landing in New York, in 1796, aboard the "Cleopatra," after nine weeks at sea.
They originally went up the North River, later to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and in 1805, settled on a three-hundred-acre patent of land called "Flowertown," located along the Penn Treaty lands, along the Proprietary Manor in that section of Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, that later became Indiana County. William Johnston was an Orangeman, had the uniform and brought it with him.

General Notes: Wife - Sarah Mathews

She was a native of Ireland, born on Derby Island. She was of Norman descent, through William the Conqueror.
