General Notes: Husband - Joseph Arters


He attended district school, and in early life learned the trade of shoe-maker, which he followed in Venango County, Pennsylvania, until March 15, 1865, when he moved to Erie County. There he purchased a farm of one hundred and ten acres on the old Meadville and Waterford Turnpike, five miles south of Waterford, later the home of his son, Robert Boyd Arters. He there resided until his death, becoming well known in the community. He was a Republican in politics, and served several times as school director and path master. He was also active in the church.
