General Notes: Husband - Robert Boyd Arters

He was educated in the Walker public school, the Manross public school, Mill Village high school and Waterford Academy. He remained at home, his father's assistant, until the latter's death, then was the mainstay of his widowed mother at the farm until 1881, when he left home, remaining two years. He then returned home and again became manager of the home farm, continuing until the death of his mother in 1895. In 1897 he established a meat market in Mill Village in partnership with E. J. Shearer. For two years he represented the Keystone View Company of Meadville, as traveling agent. From December 10, 1909, until August 1, 1912, he resided in the state of Washington. He was a strong Prohibitionist, and one of the leaders of his party in the country. He was their candidate for county treasurer, polling a very flattering vote. He was a burgess of Mill Village, serving multiple terms, and also served on the school board. He was a very active member of Mill Village Grange, Patrons of Husbandry, and was master of that grange. He was also a member of the Mill Village Lodge, No. 349, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, a steward of the Methodist Episcopal church and superintendent of the Sunday school. He owned the old homestead where so many of his years were spent, and divided his allegiance between farm and meat shop.
