General Notes: Husband - Edward Hassen

He was born September 18, 1649, and died in 1663. [BOBBC, 39] But this can't be correct.

He and with his first wife came to America, settling at Rowley, Massachusetts. There he served as selectman, overseer, and as judge of delinquents; he owned a large quantity of real estate, including seven gates, or cattle rights, which was considered an extensive ownership. His estate at death was valued at £404 7s. 8d.

The origin of this family beyond the sea has not been traced. Recent [1912]information locates a family bearing the name in Newcastle-on-Tyne, England, in the eighteenth century, and possibly the fact may afford a clue to the English home of the Puritan Edward Hazen, the emigrant ancestor.

He was a native of England, who emigrated to America and was a resident of Rowley, Massachusetts, as early as 1649.

He was overseer or selectman in Rowley, Massachusetts, in 1650, 1651, 1654, 1655, 1660, 1665, and 1668, and judge of delinquents in 1666. In the records of surveys, February 4, 1661, he appears entitled to "seven gates." These related to cattle rights on the town commons, the average number being three; no one had more than seven. The inventory of his estate amounted to £414, 7s, 8d.

He was buried in Rowley, July 22, 1683. [GPHFC, 401] [GPHAV, 596]
