General Notes: Husband - Joseph Junkin, Sr.

The Junkin family went from Iverness, in Scotland, to Ireland, before the Revolution of 1688. The name is of Danish origin, being derived from Danish adventurers who settled in North Britain.

The Junkin family came originally from the counties of Antrim and Down, Ireland, about 1740. At that time, Joseph Junkin, the first, landed at New Castle, Delaware, and came to the spot that is now Oxford, Chester County, Pennsylvania, where some of the same name had settled at an earlier date. Mr. Junkin met there a Scotch lassie, named Elizabeth Wallace, whose parents were in Derry at the time of the siege, and they were married, and came to Cumberland County, to a spot then known as Harris' Ferry, a frontier crossing on the Susquehanna, on the site of the present city of Harrisburg. There he "took up" 500 acres of land at and including the site of the present town of New Kingston, and on it built a stone house in 1748.

He came to America from County Antrim, Ulster, Ireland, in 1742, married, and in 1747 settled on the Conodoguinet creek, near "Silvers," in East Pennsboro township, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, which was their permanent home.

He came to America from Down and Antrim counties, Ireland (his estate was on both sides of the county line), about 1736 to 1740. On his arrival he tarried for a while with some relatives who had settled at Oxford, Chester County, Pennsylvania, where he met and married a Scotch girl named Elizabeth Wallace, and soon after plunged into the wilderness of Cumberland (then Lancaster) County. They crossed the Susquehanna at John Harris's Ferry, and took up 500 acres of land, including the site that later became New Kingston. He built the stone house which long stood on what was afterwards called the Walker place, due east from Kingston.
