This family is of Swiss ancestry, the progenitors coming from Switzerland and settling in eastern Pennsylvania.

He and his wife resided for a time at York, Pennsylvania, and later removed to the vicinity of New Philadelphia, Ohio, where it seems he became the owner of considerable property.
