General Notes: Husband - Jacob E. Keffer

He was born on the family farm where he always resided, and received his early education in school No. 10, Ligonier township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, afterward attending the Ligonier Academy. With the exception of four years, two of which were spent in the livery business in Ligonier, Mr. Keffer has passed his entire life on the old homestead and made many improvements on his estate. He added twenty feet to the old stone house and installed all the latest conveniences. His specialties were general farming and stock-raising. In accordance with the traditions of his family, Mr. Keffer adhered to the Democratic party and he served his community as tax collector. He affiliated with Ligonier Lodge, No. 331, Free and Accepted Masons, in which he held the rank of past master, having also occupied a seat on the board of trustees. For many years he served as deacon in St. James' Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was a director of the Ligonier National Bank and one of the large owners.
