He was born in Scrubgrass Township, Venango County, PA. In 1863 he went with his parents when they moved to Crawford County, where he remained till 1869, when he went to Petroleum Center to engage in the oil business, where he worked for some time. Then operated Shamburg, Pithole, Edenburg, St. Petersburg, and finally lo­cated at Bruin, Butler County, in 1877.
After marriage he and his wife lived in Butler County until 1904, when they moved to Kansas and later to Oklahoma and located at Cleveland, Oklahoma.
