General Notes: Husband - Franz Oetzel

He emigrated to America, and settled first in West Virginia, where he was a coal digger in the mines for about ten years. He then went to St. Louis, Missouri, where he married, though his first wife's name is unknown. She and her three children all died there. Subsequently he came from St. Louis to Brady's Bend, Clarion County, Pennsylvania, and finally bought a farm in Elk township, which he cultivated until his death. He was a Democrat in politics, and a member of the German Reformed church.

During the latter part of his life he suffered a stroke. Lingering for several years, he lost control of bodily functions near the end. Elisabeth, although she sometimes lost patience, nursed him until his death at 81 years old.

OBITUARYFebruary 15, 1915
Mrs. Anna Elizabeth Etzel was born in Germany March 31, 1832, and died near Shippenville, Pa., Feb. 5, 1915, at the home of her son, C. J. Etzel, where loving hands and tender hearts ministered to her needs and wants during her closing days upon earth. Her age was 82 years, 10 months and 4 days.
Mrs. Etzel was the mother of five children, namely: C. J., Wm. J., Mrs. Alice E. Pfaff and Mrs. Mary L. Best. A young daughter and her husband preceded her to the spirit world some years ago.
Mrs. Etzel was a woman most highly esteemed and respected for her many noble qualities. She knew what it meant to pass through the troubled waters of life. But it ever made her life sweeter and richer, because of her abiding faith, her firm hope and trust in God, through Christ, her blessed Savior.
In early life she became a member of the Reformed church. In that faith she lived and died, being at the time of her death a faithful and consistent member of St. Paul's Reformed church near Knox, Pa. She was ever an inspiration to her pastor, possessing the most beautiful Christian life and character. Never did we receive a more cordial welcome than when we went to her home. To satisfy her when we left the Beaver charge, we promised to come back and preach her funeral sermon, having been her pastor for over ten years.
