General Notes: Husband - Henry Martin

He came to the United States when he was sixteen years of age, his parents, with other members of the family, settling in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. For many generations the members of the family had been either weavers or in some capacity connected with woolen mills, and it was as a woolen mill hand that Henry was first introduced to the business world. In 1855 he left Philadelphia and, with his father, established some woolen mills at Kennerdell, Venango County, and ten years later he removed to Utica, where for three years he operated a woolen manufactory. In 1868 he became senior member of Martin and West, which founded the woolen mills at Sheakleyville, Mercer County, and conducted them for fifteen years, after which they purchased the J. Stinson grist mill and remodeled it into a woolen factory. [HMC 1909, 992]

He was associated with Richard Kennerdell in the manufacture of woolen goods at Kennerdell, later at Utica and Sheakleyville, Pennsylvania.
