General Notes: Husband - Jacob Keppel

He was born near Greensburg, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and was about twelve years of age when the family moved to Allegheny township. When a young man he worked on the dam at Leechburg, and also pushed canoes to Pittsburgh, those vessels forming the only means of communication with that city. In this way he contributed to the fund which went toward paying for his father's farm. In course of time he bought two farms in Allegheny township, one consisting of one hundred acres, and the other of one hundred and seventy-three acres. The latter he purchased in 1836. Like his father, he belonged to the Democratic party, and was a member of the Lutheran church.
