General Notes: Husband - David Kepple

In 1886 he purchased one hundred and twenty-three acres of his father's farm and eight years later erected buildings. The soil, which was impoverished, was rendered productive by judicious applications of lime and phosphate, and the keeping of stock became another source of profit. Mr. Kepple's farm was soon numbered among the best in the township, its crops being more abundant than ever before, especially the wheat which, in certain fields, yielded forty-five bushels per acre. Mr. Kepple kept about fifteen cows, the milk being shipped wholesale to East Liberty. He handled many Clydesdale horses and was recognized as an able judge of these animals as well as a high class farmer. Horses of his production sold at unusually high prices, sometimes bringing over three hundred dollars each. Withal Mr. Kepple was active in community affairs, filling the offices of tax collector and supervisor and serving on the school board. His earlier religious affiliations were with the old Presbyterian church at Congruity, but later he became a member of a church at New Alexandria.
