He was born in Germany and on his arrival in America settled in Franklin County, Pennsylvania, in 1830. He remained there until his removal to Logan, Ohio, in 1850, where he made his home until 1868, in which year he went west to Kansas. In 1877 he purchased a farm near Oil City, Venango County, Pennsylvania, where he was successfully engaged in the production of oil during the rest of his active years.
