General Notes: Husband - Rev. John Smith Kincaide

He was born at the home place in Wayne township, Erie County, Pennsylvania, and was early educated in the public schools of the township, and spent the years until 1879 engaged in farming. He had long felt the call to preach the Gospel and had neglected no opportunity to prepare himself for that holy calling. In 1889 he was ordained a minister of the United Brethren church, and became a member of the Erie Conference. From that time until his death he was actively engaged in ministerial work, serving different churches as pastor. During the Civil War he enlisted as a private in Company L, Twelfth Regiment Pennsylvania Cavalry, went to the front and served under General Sheridan. He was engaged at the battles of Winchester, Cedar Creek and Front Royal, during the Shenandoah Valley campaigns. He was a Republican in politics, held several town offices in early life, and was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows at Salamanca, New York.
