J. Byers King
DENTON - J. Byers King of Denton, formerly of Cooperstown, Pa., died Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998 in Caroline Nursing Home in Denton. He was 90.
Born in Cooperstown, Pa., on Dec. 26, 1907, he was the son of the late Charles W. King and Theodosia Byers King.
He graduated from Cooperstown High School in 1923 and from Franklin, Pa., High School in 1924 and in June 1929 he graduated from Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pa.
He taught high school math in the following schools in Pennsylvania: Endeaver, Rockland, Corsica, Rocky Grove, Townville and New Wilmington. In 1953 he came to Denton as a math teacher and coach, retiring in 1972.
After his retirement he served as the executive secretary of the Bayside Athletic Conference for 20 years. He also directed elementary school chess clubs for the Caroline Youth Commission of the Parks and Recreation Department. In July 1984 he received an award from the governor of Maryland for his active promotion of physical fitness activities among young people for 30 years.
He was a member of NRTA and the Maryland Retired Teachers Association, the Denton Lions Club and the Presbyterian Church of Cooperstown, Pa.
Mr. King is survived by his wife, Dorothy King, whom he married on Aug. 14, 1933; a son, Charles W. King of Dallas, Texas; five daughters, Mary Schreiber, Barbara Eaton and Virginia Kilmon, all of Easton, Ruth Anne Rader of Annapolis and Theda Henry of Denton; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. A sister, Katherine Wells, is deceased.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 1 at Moore Funeral Home, Denton, where friends may call one hour before the service. Burial will be in Denton Cemetery, Denton.

KING-LUSHER.
Miss Dorothy Louise Lusher, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Willis G. Lusher, of Rockland, and J. Byers King, of Cooperstown, were married on Monday, with the ceremony performed by Rev. John Lusher, of Parkers Landing, 91-year-old great uncle of the bride.
The bride wore a gown of Eleanore blue crepe, with matching accessories.
Prof. King is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles W. King, of Cooperstown, and was a member of the faculty of the Rockland Vocational High School, where his bride was graduated this spring. He is a graduate of Franklin High School and Westminster College and a former instructor at Endeavor High School. He has been elected to a position with the vocational high school at Corsica, Clarion County and at the conclusion of a wedding trip through the middle west and a visit to the Century of Progress at Chicago, Prof. and Mrs. King will take up their residence in their newly furnished home at Corsica.
The wedding supper was served at the home of the bride's parents immediately following the ceremony. Covers were placed for eight at the bride's table.
