General Notes: Husband - John Sterling

He was born and reared in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, and was a farmer.

He and his wife had three sons and three daughters. Three of their children were still living in 1882.

He inherited money from his father, and to this he added largely. He was engaged in farming all his life, prospering abundantly. He acquired a large tract of land between Masontown and the Monongahela river. This land was still largely owned in the Sterling name into the twentieth century, one hundred and twenty-six acres being the farm and residence of the widow and daughters of John (2) Sterling.
He was a member of the Church of the Brethren and a Democrat in politics.

General Notes: Wife - Catharine Knife

She was of German descent (family name Messer).
