He graduated from Sligo high school, May 9, 1905; took the teacher's course at Valparaiso College, Indiana; taught for three terms in Porter township, Clarion County, Pennsylvania, after which he went to Williamsport Commercial College, where he graduated; then to Renovo, Pennsylvania, where he was bookkeeper for Pennsylvania railroad car shops.
