This family is of German extraction; he was the first to leave the Fatherland, and after a brief residence in Berks County, Pennsylvania, he came to central Pennsylvania and settled on a farm in Centre County, one mile west of Millheim. This was long known as the Keen farm, and was continuously in the possession of his descendants into the twentieth century. He reared a large family of children, seventeen in all.
