General Notes: Husband - Jonathan Kurtz


He was born of German parentage, in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, where he learned his trade as a hatter. He subsequently removed to Somerset County, where he married. They located in Blairsville in 1853, he being the first hatter to locate in the village. The Methodist Episcopal church was organized at his house, and he served as class leader, steward, etc., for many years.
