She was the most loved and admired of the DeWoodys for her wit and wisdom, gentleness and graciousness, compas­sion and love of laughter. When Ernest's uncle died and they inherited wealth, they decided not to tell the children of the turn of their for­tune, so they would grow up unspoiled. The children learned of it at school!
