General Notes: Husband - Irwin Boyle Laughlin

He was educated at St. Paul's School, Concord, New Hampshire, and at Yale University, from which he was graduated in the class of 1893. After two years spent in travel he entered the firm of Jones & Laughlin (Limited), finally becoming treasurer of the Jones & Laughlin Steel Company in 1900, an office which he filled until the autumn of 1904, when he resigned to become secretary to the Hon. Lloyd C. Griscom, then minister to Japan. A year later he became second secretary of the American legation at Tokyo, Japan, and in the following year was transferred to Bangkok, Siam (Thailand), as consul general, remaining there for about eight months. He was then transferred to the American legation at Peking, China, in the capacity of second secretary, and a few months later to the American embassy at St. Petersburg, Russia, with the same rank. In September, 1908, he was appointed secretary and charge d'affaires of the American legation at Athens, Greece. Mr. Laughlin was a member of the Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh Golf and Allegheny Country Clubs of his native city and of the University Club of New York.
