He settled in Jefferson County, Pennsylvania, in 1833. He was a prominent man, holding the office of justice of the peace and other township positions.
He and his first wife had five children, three of whom were still living in 1888. With his second wife he had eleven children, nine of whom were still living in 1888.

He later resided in Minnesota.
